MET programs

MET is indebted to the generosity of many donors and volunteers. They are providing funds, help and guidance to the scholars to be successful in the new environment.

The success of scholars not only helps themselves, but also helps the communities around them. The scholars help their communities by contributing to the local economy. They help their employers and the US economy through their innovation and dedication. And when some choose to return to their own countries, US gains a true friend abroad.

Here are some more details of the various programs if you wish to get involved .

Donor Program is one way you can support MET. You can simply write a letter, enclose your tax free donation check and mail it to us to any of our addresses (see "Contact us"). You can also e-mail to us and pledge. We will promptly acknowledge the receipt of your donation or pledge and, if you request, send you a reminder. We will also provide any additional information upon request. Many companies have programs to match donations of their employees. Please inquire if your company has such a program and take advantage of it.

Would you like to have a scholarship named after a person of your choice? Then Patron Program is for you. A patron can fund 1 or more scholars. If you choose to fund 5 or more scholars, you can name one after someone of your choice. You can be a donor and make a commitment in writing to MET that you wish to be a Patron. When you fund 5 scholars after your commitment, you write a request to MET providing the details of your donations (check numbers, dates, etc) for 5 or more scholars. We will send you an invitation to join the Patron Program, ask you to name one of the scholarships and provide a paragraph on the person the scholarship is named after. This paragraph is displayed on MET website.

Corporate donors are the key to the continued success of MET. We are indebted to their generosity.

Many donors are helping the scholars by recommending them for summer internships or career jobs at their companies. We truly appreciate their help.

Volunteers are involved in each activity of MET today. Their help is critical to our ability to maintain our low overheads.

Below is a current list of the programs. New programs get started and some old and unpopular programs get shelved every year. Most are started based on ideas of volunteers themselves. MET continually reviews and revises these programs based on feedback from the student and volunteer community.

You can sign up for multiple programs as your time allows. We appreciate any help you can give.

We maintain lists of volunteers signed up for each program. Volunteers can change their choices by writing to us. When we receive a scholar’s request for help, we choose and contact the volunteer prospects from these lists, see their availability and pass on the volunteer contact information to the scholar. Our procedures are designed to carefully preserve volunteer’s privacy.

Hosts program:
The Hosts provide most of the necessary help to a student to get adjusted to his new life in US. This help typically continues throughout the scholar’s academic stay in the vicinity of the host. Some hosts may pick up their student from the airport, help him find accommodation and introduce him to American customs and practices. MET introduces the student to the host and plays the role of a communication facilitator.

Sponsor Program
The sponsors provide invaluable help to the scholars by providing recommendation letters or sponsorship letters for visa applications when needed. To write such a letter, the sponsor needs to know the scholar very well. Therefore, sponsors typically are hosts of their scholar first.

Mentor Program
Mentors advise the scholars, provide guidance during studies, and prepare them for getting internships and other jobs while studying. Mentors also help scholars get ready for job interviews and entering the job market.

Pals Network Program
Most volunteers in this program are current and past scholars. They talk with the new scholar regularly, share their experiences and solutions that worked for them.

Office Administration Program
Many current and past scholars are volunteers in this program. They are helping MET with record keeping, Software implementation and maintenance and fund-raising.
